Sometimes you just have to give yourself some kudos

Sometimes you just have to give yourself some kudos, but it’s much better when they come from someone else. The other day, Steve Canfield, a local developer, was visiting one of the houses I’m building. There wasn’t yet any insulation and drywall. Just bare bones. He said the framing was the best he had ever seen in more than 30 years in business and that it was so lovely it should be left uncovered. I thought that was a whole new approach to becoming one with nature and the elements but didn’t share it with the homeowners who are conservative wall people. Believe me, the idea will catch on in a big way, probably in California or Colorado or one...

I Love My Clients…

I love my clients. When we start their job, I joke that we’re “getting married”. Working together on a new home or a remodel is like a temporary marriage. Except that there are usually three of us! Sometimes I see them more than they see each other. As work has neared completion, I have had clients complain that I’m seeing other people (new clients). They’re jealous. But by that time we have all become a family. Okay, maybe I’m considered the crazy sister, but they’re nuts about me....

A Completely New Direction…

I can’t do any one thing for a long period of time. Fortunately, I get to totally start over and go in a completely new direction building or remodeling a house with a different family about every four months. It keeps me excited and interested. I suppose that makes me a serial monogamist. Of course, that I can’t get enough of the smell of saw dust may have something to do with. Starting a new project means I get to smell a fresh batch. I’m not kidding....
